The objectives of the very recent Gowharshad association are precise: to support young Afghan women who want to continue their studies.  The goal is modest, but the stakes are immense: to pursue one’s studies is to resist the sexist oppression of the Taliban, to maintain hope and build for the future. Gowharshad takes a cautious approach, working as closely as possible with female students, whether in exile or in Afghanistan.
